.: WiRes is a yearly, state-wide conference that is attended by the network administrators of most UW schools, some private Wisconsin colleges and Minnesota State schools. The conference exists to discuss problems (and solutions) that face our networks. Round table discussions, product demos and presentations by the member schools make WiRes a valuable source of information to all involved.
.: In 2005, UW Oshkosh hosted the conference. When I got the word, I started designing our WiRes site and logo (each school had made their own site and there has never been an official logo). I explored many different layouts but in the end went with one of the more conservative layouts based on feedback from the governing committee. The monochromatic layout that I went with was based off the my work in various wiring closets and server rooms (both places are rather cold and clean). | | Keeping graphics to minimum by request, the site's feel is primarily CSS. Admittedly the site did suffer from "feature creep", however the layout did stay true to form and it was well received.
.: As of this writing, serious talks have been entertained about my layout and logo creation becoming the official WiRes theme. Though no final word has come I have already been asked to get the site ready to be transferred to the new host school and the logo to be exported into various formats and a style guide for it created.
