.: The Management Information Office (MIO) controls the internet connections for over 3000 students who live in the residence halls. To allow MIO to not only see the amount of traffic but to regulate it, a co-worker started development of a SNMP controller to access the switches in the various wiring closets. His creation was simple and couldn't do very much. He graduated leaving me the responsibility to carry the project on.

It, coupled with another database (ResNet), grew to not only control the 100+ switches around campus, but also showed per port, who was connected and how much bandwidth they were using. Switchview became the first joint project between my web team and the programming team with the programming team developing web services that my site called. |
